Our Program Director, Kyla Carter, and our High School Community Ambassador, Natalie Henry, have a conversation with ABC News about our work, including the launch of our Leadership Journal and our first annual Butterfly Weekend in Chicago, IL and Gary, IN.
On Sunday, May 1st, many of our seniors shared their college and career decisions for National Decision Day, and we're so proud of them!! ❤️ If you missed our social media posts, here's a quick snapshot of where some of our girls are headed: Please join us in celebrating our girls!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and/or LinkedIn, where we'll continue to keep you posted as more of our youth leaders make their college and career decisions.
We're elated to be featured by News 12 in their "Jersey Proud" segment this week, celebrating our community impact and Joy's recent acceptance to Harvard! Joy Lindsay, our Founder and CEO was pleasantly surprised when a friend texted her a screenshot of the feature. Reflecting on all the recent community love she's received over the last few days, Joy wrote: "Feeling and embracing all the love and I am incredibly grateful! Thank you, everyone, for the beautiful expressions and warm wishes. My Newark, NJ community has grounded and loved me through some of my toughest life moments, and it is an absolute honor to see “Jersey Proud” of Butterfly Dreamz and my acceptance to the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I hope to continue making you all proud, and I am forever grateful to everybody who welcomed this girl from Gary, Indiana into Jersey many years ago and supported me in making a home here. Love you all and thank you News 12 New Jersey for the thoughtful feature."

This school year, we’ll have 43 Leadership Coaches providing one-on-one mentorship to our girls, helping them grow as leaders and achieve their personal, professional, and academic goals. Our coaches come from a variety of career backgrounds, professions, and cities across the United States. We are ecstatic that they’ve decided to share their wisdom and leadership skills with our girls and we’re so grateful to have them on the team!! 💕🦋 We are pleased to introduce our first cohort of ExCEL Fellows! ExCEL - Exemplifying Change, Empowerment, and Leadership. Over the next few months, these young leaders will be learning about gender-based violence and working together to create a community action project that builds community support and protection for girls. We are honored to facilitate this fellowship in partnership with Rutgers Univerisity, NJ DCF Division on Women, and other regional partners. Stay tuned for future updates about their impactful work! 💕🦋 In partnership with the Rutgers Center for Women and Work, NJ DCF Division on Women, and other regional partners, Butterfly Dreamz, Inc. will be facilitating the ExCEL Fellowship for young women leaders, ages 16 to 23, in Northern New Jersey.
During this 7-month fellowship, youth leaders will work together to design an action project that builds community support and protection for girls. Fellows will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month, from 6 PM until 7:30 PM, beginning November 4th. Fellows will also participate in monthly leadership training, hosted by the Rutgers Center for Women and Work. All fellowship sessions will be conducted virtually via Zoom, and technology will be provided, as needed. Over the course of the fellowship (Nov 2021 - May 2022), you'll grow as a leader, develop lasting friendships with other women and girl leaders, and create an impactful community project! As a fellow, you'll earn a minimum of 30 community service hours by planning and implementing your project and be eligible for a $1,000 youth leadership scholarship. Note: You do not need to be a Cocoon Club member to apply for the ExCEL fellowship. If selected, you will receive a free membership. |
